Truck Kiosk App

Our client, Peterbilt, required a user-friendly application for their digital kiosks to showcase the features of their trucks and capture leads during expo events. The application was designed for use by Peterbilt sales representatives to engage potential customers effectively. The primary objective was to create a straightforward and visually engaging solution that highlights the unique features of Peterbilt trucks, encouraging users to visit the Peterbilt website and complete a lead generation form. The client’s key focus was to attract and collect high-quality design leads.

Challenge

A significant challenge at expo events was the lack of reliable Wi-Fi connectivity, preventing the application from accessing the Peterbilt website. This limitation required the application to function seamlessly in an offline environment while still delivering an engaging and informative experience for potential customers.

Goals

  1. Showcase Truck Features

Create an engaging and interactive platform to highlight the unique features and benefits of Peterbilt trucks, enhancing brand awareness and customer interest.
  2. Offline Functionality

Ensure the application operates seamlessly without an internet connection, enabling consistent performance at expos with limited or no Wi-Fi availability.
  3. Lead Generation

Provide a streamlined process for collecting high-quality design leads by encouraging expo attendees to explore truck features and express interest through a lead capture mechanism.
  4. Sales Rep Support

Equip Peterbilt sales representatives with an intuitive tool to facilitate conversations, deliver key information, and engage potential customers effectively.
  5. Website Traffic Encouragement

Motivate users to visit the Peterbilt website post-event by offering compelling information and calls-to-action within the application, driving further engagement and conversion

The Users

The application serves three primary user groups:

  1. Sales Representatives

Their goal is to present truck features in a simple and visually engaging manner, making it easier for potential buyers to understand the value and make informed purchasing decisions.
  2. Truck Owners/Operators/Buyers

This group seeks a clear understanding of what the truck offers and evaluates whether it meets their personal and business needs. They prioritize features related to comfort, technology, and styling.
  3. Fleet Managers

Fleet managers focus on assessing whether the truck aligns with their business requirements. Their primary interests include uptime, durability, technology, and efficiency.

Research

Initially, the client did not provide the dimensions of the digital kiosk device. To proceed, we researched common methods for creating interactive hotspots. One platform that stood out during our research was Genially.com, known for its simple and user-friendly interface.Assuming the display would have a horizontal orientation, we created wireframes optimized for presenting hotspots on horizontally oriented screens. However, once we received the actual device dimensions, we discovered it had a vertical orientation and was significantly larger than anticipated. This posed a new challenge: when users interacted with the device, a substantial portion of the screen fell outside their immediate view. To address this, we revised our plans and developed new wireframes specifically designed to accommodate the vertical orientation and ensure an optimal user experience.

The Solution

Our goal was to deliver an experience for the kiosk application that closely mirrored the Peterbilt website, ensuring familiarity and ease of use. To simplify the process of finding trucks, we organized them into tabbed categories: On-Highway, Vocational, Medium Duty, and Electric.Once a sales representative selects a truck, a modal appears displaying the truck model with hotspots and some key information. The sales rep can then lock the screen through the settings menu, removing the navigation options and allowing potential customers to focus solely on the truck's features.Users can interact with intuitive hotspots to explore the truck's key features. The application’s design is straightforward and user-friendly, making it easy for both sales reps and customers to engage with the content effectively.

Testing

Before deploying the application, we conducted thorough testing on the kiosks to ensure it operated smoothly and performed as intended.

Launch

The Digital Truck Tours application was first used at the the World of Concrete Expo in January 2025 and it was a great success.
